Muffen, president and CEO of Muffen’s International Salon, with a location in Boston ,Ma , has cosmetology in her DNA. Practically born in her mother’s salon in Mattapan, one of Boston’s most culturally enriched neighborhoods, Muffen affirms, “I was styling my friend’s hair since I was eleven years old.” After almost twenty years of apprenticing under her mother’s experienced eye; Muffen opened her first salon in 1999 and has been driven and motivated to be forward bound ever since.

The intensity of her confident statements about her plans for the future filled with franchises, cosmetology schools and product lines speak to the passion and pride she has for her craft. As her career has evolved, Muffen has encountered and surmounted many challenges both personal and professional, yet they have only served to fuel a desire to be at her most innovative prime in the industry. As editor in chief of Finest Stylist/ Finest Barber (FS/FB) International Hair Magazine, she showcases the best the Northeast and surrounding states has to offer in styling, fashion, and trends for its loyal readership.
The magazine also sponsors and highlights Boston’s Official Finest Stylist International Hair Competition & Show. Over the past five years, it has become the biggest locally sponsored hair show in the region drawing over 2000 spectators and 300 contestants from all over the United States. Muffen confides, “FS/FB International is the vehicle I am using to make Boston a platform city for cutting edge hair care and design.” The competition and show is a two-pronged event born of Muffen’s blood, sweat and tenacity. Day One consists of educational seminars designed to take hair professionals and their business to the, “Next Level.” Hardcore competition ranks supreme in Day 2 while electrifying hair enthusiasts and taxing the creative abilities of contestants.
Muffen’s platform artistry is legendary. An ability to defy gravity, most laws of physics and color; she has dazzled ravenous spectators across the globe, together with judges in major, national and international hair competitions. Placing in 22 competitions; including Proud Lady Chicago, Golden Scissors [Washington D.C.], Milky Way [Philadelphia, Baltimore & Detroit] and Baddest of the Bad in Atlanta. Moreover, Muffen was the winner of the International Hair Show (IHS) in New Jersey in 2008, the competition displayed in BETJ’s 2nd season of Tears, Shears & Beauty, in addition to being a supporting actor on the reality show Big D’s house airing on A&E Network. Muffin also worked as a celebrity stylist creating hairstyles for Jade of Americas next top model when she made her spring 2008 appearance on the Tyra Banks Show. Muffen was also a contestant in the Bronner Brothers Hair Battle 2009 in Baltimore and Atlanta. Her work speaks for itself, outshining many of her New England counterparts, leaving very few left to rival her raw talent and precision.
Muffen-ology is the art and science of what she does so naturally. As an educator, she has become a “cosmetology sensei” to a new generation of stylists, thinking outside the box and, like their instructor; never hesitating to take on styling challenges no matter how great. Muffen currently does educational seminars all over the country. Muffen’s ultimate goal is to create a school where she can share her artistic gifts and technical knowledge.
